Sooki and Mimi was incredible! The service was amazing and the server was knowledgeable with all the menu items. We personally got the the Korean Fried chicken wings and they had incredible flavor and an amazing crunch. My ultimate favorite item was the Mushroom Birria tacos. The flavor was absolutely incredible, the texture of the mushrooms were perfect, and the cheese melted on the tortilla tied it all together. We also got the Korean pork tacos and I did really like them, but noting was topping the mushroom birria! The ambiance is absolutely amazing and the whole place looks stunning.
I loved my experience at Sooki and Mimi! The food was incredibly flavorful and the service was excellent. The restaurant is also beautifully designed! I cannot wait to try their new restaurant, Kim's, coming soon!!
Have had this on my list for a while as a place to check out. Found out recently that it will be changing and wont be around in its current incarnation so moved it up on the list. Stopped by on Saturday for dinner. We had made a reservation but realized after getting there that it was for the wrong day (d'oh). They were very accommodating and sat us at the bar which suited us just fine. It a cozy place and the bar area is small but doesn't feel claustrophobic. The bartender was super helpful and made recommendations for both food and drink. We ordered a few drinks and a bunch of food. The drinks were on the money. We had the Tepache, which was sweet with the fermented pineapple and a unique combination. The pool party and poppy negroni were also very good but my favorite was the que sera, serrano. Little spicy and perfectly balanced. The food was a real star here. The grilled shrimp were excellent. The mushroom birria tacos are some of the best tacos I have had and I am not even a fan of mushrooms. This is what they are known for and you can tell why once you have a bite. The galbi jim was another unique experience. I did not expect corn tortillas but was pleasantly surprised. The gochugaru crema really set it apart. The lamb tacos were probably our least favorite. Not because they weren't good, but with everything else being exceptional, they didn't meet the mark. Ended the night with the churro mochi donuts that were an interesting dessert and a unique flavor like some of the other dishes we had. I am glad I got to try this place and I hope that when they redo this place, the same uniqueness and high quality translate over. Looking for to her new adventure.
Absolutely delicious, in fact the galbi jjim is likely the best restaurant dish I have had in months. The beef perfectly tender, but still retaining it's shape, the braise succulent on its own but sent into a new direction with the crema that transformed the flavor profile. The mushroom birria, chicken wings and totchos were also very good. The biria's flavors were complex and satisfying in ways hard to describe. When we got the plate and saw only two smallish tacos for $19 there was a moment of "are you kidding me?" Happy smiles and a full belly later they clearly were not. Service was good and the ambience comfortable. I also appreciated that they included the fair wage service charges and no tipping required. With all the good reviews why is it closing in a few weeks? People far smarter than me I'm sure have looked at that. My opinion is the appearance of high prices may scare people off (the $19 pair of tacos), as does its uptown location which is still a mess post riots and COVID. For me the princes on paper seemed high but after the meal seemed reasonable for the caliber. I miss the Uptown of the early 2000's and sadly it may never return to the restaurant and retail hub it once was. But there are still some gems there that deserve our support.
Yesterday, my friends and I pretty much ended up trying the entire menu, and we have all concluded that this establishment had amazing food, especially the tacos, which we ended up ordering twice for each kind. Personally I have long known Sooki & Mimi as a restaurant that served a combination of Korean and Mexican fusion food, so I came in with lots of excitement. It was a lovely experience with amazing food, amazing service, and great atmosphere! Because we had 6 people, we ended up getting a stone table almost right next to the kitchen, and being able to watch the cooking process at times was joyful as well. Every taco was a hit, especially the mushroom birria tacos, the braised lamb tacos, and the baja fish tacos. Each type had a very unique flavor that had a great balance of sauce, protein, and toppings. Not one greatly dominated the other ones. For the dinomite dorados tacos, we had a brontosaurus holder and a tricerotops holder, and by that time I finally understood why the dish contained the name "dinomite" and that was really cute! Those chorizo tacos were excellent as well! Just comparatively, the other three really shined for me. I would also like to point out that not one type of tacos tasted like another type, which was amazing because that meant the tacos didn't just heavily rely on their respective sauces! The entrées were not as impressive as the tacos, but they were great as well! I thought the portions were a bit small for the prices, but the taste made it worth it, at least. The pork chop itself was cooked to medium to medium well, so some of that good raw meat taste was retained, and together with some pineapple pico and al pastor glaze, it was a great combination. The galbi jjim had some tender braised beef! Together with gochugaru crema, it allowed me to make some excellent tacos using their tortillas with sole beef, crema, and kimchi, a combination we never asked for but found out that we needed! The tamal was good as well, but the highlight to me was actually what was around the tamale because if you combine those ingredients with a bite of the tamale, it's a completely new flavor profile. Both desserts were excellent! The lemongrass panna cotta was unlike any panna cotta I had ever had. The flavor was unique in a way that I thoroughly enjoyed despite not familiar. The sweet potato mochi donuts worked very well with dulce de leche and chocolate mousse! Nothing else I can say about it! I would recommend both, and because they had such different kinds of flavors, I think it would really be up to personal preference. I am happy to have finally visited before they close and get reincarnated as a new entity, and I am grateful for such!
This place has been on my list for some time and it didn't disappoint. I tried the trapche with vodka and it was a light and refreshing summer cocktail. We split tacos and wings. Both were delicious. The wings were nice and crispy with a tasty coating. The sauce was a calming aspect of the tangy tacos. We had the moki donut for dessert. So good. The tacos were made with homemade tortillas and a pork filling. Excellent. We reserved a bar table but it wasn't too busy on Wed night so we were able to sneak into a booth along the windows. Loved the atmosphere. Our server was excellent. He helped us with the menu and made recommendations. He was fantastic and made us feel welcome. Great stop.
We went here for our 5 year wedding anniversary and had such a wonderful experience! First off, the ambiance when you enter is very beautiful with the open floor concept, bannister ceilings, and archway designs towards the back of the restaurant. Very modern with plenty of greenery and light oak wood tones. Next, the food. Both the presentation and the depth of flavors was astounding. Here is what we ordered: Totchas - large cubes of tater tots, salsa taquera, white cheddar, jalapeño, crema, pickled red onion. SO delicious! Probably my favorite thing we ordered, even though everything was incredible. Loved the unique flavor combos of the salsa and cream. Mushroom birria tacos - confit maitake, queso chihuahua, shiitake crema, vegetable consomme. Also extremely delicious with so much flavor ! Didn't taste like I was having a meatless dish. Loved the taste of the tacos themselves but everything combined was a great flavor explosion. Tamal - yellow squash, pipian, seasonal vegetables, queso fresco, gremolata, salsa morita. Also very delicious! It tasted like I was eating a real tamale. The queso and gremolata and salsa was a nice touch to this dish. I appreciated the attention to detail with the garnishes of nuts and fresh flower petals. Definitely one of the prettiest dishes I have eaten! Beet Cola - non alcoholic drink with black pepper, cinnamon, vanilla. Very tasty and not overly sweet so we offered my daughter it as well and she loved it too! Overall, we had a great experience here and will definitely want to visit again some time. The tastes and flavor combinations were incredible and made for a great date night. On top of that, they were very patient and accommodating for my 1.5 year old and offered a high chair for her right away, in addition to a booth table - super helpful for when she didn't want to sit in the chair. Thank you for the great experience and accommodations!
Sooki & Mimi is lively even on a Tuesday evening the restaurant was packed, we had a choice of 2 bar seats without reservation. The bar area is dimly lit with plaster walls reminiscent of a Spanish inspired home, with greenery scattered about. We shared the Korean fried chicken wings, it was a delicious dry rub different from expectations. I had thought we were getting the usually sauced wings when thinking of Korean chicken wings. The winner of this trip was our drink, abasolo iced tea- it was a blend of mango with a kick of spicy. The combination was amazing. Definitely a must try.
Ann Kim can create a concept with the best of them. Right away when you walk in it is a very light and airy space. There is so much natural light, and really interesting decor (like the bathroom is so unique). The staff was very professional and kind, we were in a bigger group and a little chaotic and they still did an excellent job. The food was so good, and felt very fairly priced. It is a really unique combination of menu items, and if you go in a group I would highly recommend ordering tapas style so you can try a little of everything!!
This is such a lovely spot! Ambiance: Very modern and beautiful interior. They have an open kitchen and ample seating. Food: I've heard so much about the mushroom Birria tacos that I had to check it out myself. I must say, the mushroom Birria tacos are top tier! They were fresh, savory, and very flavorful! Drinks: they had a descent amount of cocktails. We ordered the Adelita which was a bit on the sweeter side and delicious. We also ordered the besos de mezcal which had more of the smoky flavor. Service: The service was great, very attentive staff! Overall, I highly recommend you check this spot out and make sure you give the mushroom Birria tacos a try!
